Over the past several lessons, you have practiced several important skills:
noticing ideas that stand out
evaluating whether those ideas fit your business
identifying useful pieces within larger frameworks
recognizing constraints and requirements
considering what an idea could change
observing friction or resistance
Now these skills come together.
This lesson focuses on deciding what deserves continued attention after you have considered the idea within the context of your business.
Some ideas may be ready to move into Apply. Others may be worth revisiting later or leaving behind.
Each decision helps you focus on what matters most.
Your Reading
Continue reading the business book you are currently reading.
If you are following the Book of the Quarter, read the chapters or pages assigned for the current week.
Otherwise, continue with the next section of your book.
Read what you can.
You do not need to complete every page for the process to be useful.
Identify One Takeaway
As you read, capture one idea that stands out to you.
Your takeaway might be:
a quote
a concept
a strategy
an observation
You may notice other ideas and capture them as well. For this lesson, choose one to examine more closely.
By this stage, you may also begin recognizing patterns in the types of ideas that consistently capture your attention.
Those patterns can help reveal what currently matters most in your business.
Thinking Lens: What Is Your Decision Right Now?
For this lesson, focus on choice.
Ask yourself:
Based on what I understand about this idea and my business, should I move it to Apply, revisit it later, or leave it behind?
Consider:
whether the idea connects to a current need or priority
whether it offers practical value
whether it fits your business context and capacity
whether the necessary conditions are in place
whether the timing is right
whether it has changed or clarified your thinking
Make the decision based on what you understand now.
Three Possible Decisions
Your decision will usually fall into one of three categories.
Move to Apply
The idea deserves further consideration or action in your business.
You are ready to define what could change and determine what should happen next.
If you are using the RBG app, flag the item so it moves into the Apply section.
Revisit Later
The idea may be useful, but the timing, capacity, or necessary conditions are not currently in place.
Keep it with your reading notes so you can return to it when your circumstances or priorities change.
Leave Behind
The idea does not fit your business, priorities, or direction.
You can complete your review without giving it further attention.
All three outcomes reflect thoughtful decision-making.
What Application Looks Like at This Stage
Application during this step is choosing what happens to the idea next.
This might look like:
flagging an idea to move into Apply
keeping an idea with your reading notes for later
leaving an item unflagged after reviewing it
recording why an idea deserves further attention
recognizing that the idea has already served its purpose by clarifying your thinking
This decision separates the ideas you captured while reading from the ideas that may influence your business.
Reflection
Before moving to the next lesson, write down:
the takeaway that stood out to you
whether you will move it to Apply, revisit it later, or leave it behind
one reason for your decision
This reflection helps you move from evaluating ideas to choosing what deserves your attention.
